Ex-Home Front Command chief of staff: Civilians face shelter-or-slaughter dilemma amid threats
Published on March 20, 2026.
Brig. Gen. Dedi Simchi, former Home Front Command chief of staff, has warned that civilians face a choice between sheltering in shelters or letting terrorists "slaughter" their children. Simchi stated that the choice is between running to shelters for a year or letting them be slaughtered. He also suggested that Hezbollah can be defeated in Lebanon, noting that the terrorist group's threat to threaten Israel's home front is significantly lower than in the past. He suggested that Israel needs to force the Lebanese government to fight Hezbollah and suggested creating a million Shiite refugees in Beirut to pressure them to fight the terrorist organization. Simch also suggested the state should start thinking differently about fortifying itself and instead of relying on the traditional approach of fortifying themselves.
