DC Put On 'Spring Teen Jam' To Keep Juveniles Out Of Trouble — Instead, Eight Got Arrested
Published on April 11, 2026.
Washington, D.C. police arrested eight minors after fights broke out outside an event hosted by the city's Parks and Recreation department to prevent teen fighting. The taxpayer-funded two-night youth event, Spring Teen Jam, was held to prevent "teen takeovers" in the city, which have led to the creation of multiple juvenile curfew zones throughout the country. The arrests occurred on the second day of the event, which was held at King Greenleaf Recreation Center. The juvenile delinquents, aged 12 to 17, were charged with various offenses including assault on law enforcement officers, resisting arrest and affray. Despite the arrests, hundreds of teenagers peacefully participated in the festivities inside the center. The event was promoted by the mayor as an engaging, fun, and safe activity for young people.
