The Iranian-backed group Hezbollah has fired rockets from Lebanon into Israel for a second day, while the Israeli military has sent troops into the south of the country. Israel has also conducted air strikes that have killed dozens of people. This violence comes after a 13-month war that ended in 2024, which left Hezbollah severely damaged and isolated. Despite a ceasefire agreement, Israel continued bombing of Lebanon daily. Hezbollah, which is proscribed as a terrorist organisation in the US, UK, and other countries, has remained silent, anticipating retaliation. The Lebanese government had warned Hezbollah against intervening, but it did act. The escalation in Lebanon means Israel will face a second front in the Iran war, as it continues to carry out frequent air strikes on Iran.
