Five Underrated Tire Brands That Can Compete With Goodyear

Goodyear, a tire industry institution, has been ranked second overall in a recent ranking of major tire brands. However, this ranking does not necessarily translate into a podium finish in every test. In Consumer Reports' 2026 Best Tire Brands rankings, Goodyear was placed seventh among the brands it evaluated, most notably behind brands that are not immediately associated with premium performance. The brands profiled below have demonstrated they can compete with Goodyear, despite their reputation. Nokian Tyres, one of Europe's oldest tire manufacturers, has made significant strides in European testing circles with its winter and snow tires. In Tyre Reviews' 2025 best SUV all-season tire test, Nokan SeasonProof 2 delivered the shortest wet braking distance in the entire test, outperforming Goodyear's Vector 4Seasons Gen 3. Vredestein's summer tire test also saw a notable result, beating the Goodyear Asymmetric 6 in wet categories.
