Zumba, a global dance fitness movement, started in Miami 25 years ago as a "rhumba-cise" class in Aventura. The founder, Alberto Perez, began improvising steps for his students and partnered with Perlman and co-founder Alberto Aghion to sell VHS workout tapes on TV. Zumba emerged at a time when Latin music and fitness were both surging in popularity in the US. The company's success continues from its headquarters in Hallandale Beach.
