Matthew Rutledge, a former history teacher at Miss Hall's School in Pittsfield, has been indicted on three counts of rape in connection with sexually assaulting students during his time as a history teacher. The charges were brought after testimony from former students Hilary Simon and Melissa Fares, who accused Rutledge of grooming and years-long sexual abuse that began when they were minors. The Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office initially announced no charges would be filed in the case in October 2024. After six months of investigating, the district attorney's office took over the investigation and found Rutledge to have violated Massachusetts General Law. The investigation into Rutledge and other staff remains ongoing.
