700-Foot-High Lava Fountain Glows Against Night Sky as Kilauea Erupts

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has reported that Kilauea's latest eruption began at 1:34am on April 23 and is expected to last less than 12 hours. The National Weather Service has issued an ashfall advisory for the District of Kau, southwest of the eruptive vents. The USGS has warned that the eruption will continue to occur, and urges visitors to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to stay aware of potential hazards.
