The Utah measles outbreak, the largest in the United States in three decades, is increasing as it enters its eighth month and continues to worsen. The outbreak, which began last summer, has seen almost 100 confirmed illnesses in Utah in the last three weeks, with more people catching measles in the first few months of this year than all of last year. Local health officials have turned to talk radio to spread the message about vaccination to more people. The southwest corner of Utah, where most of the cases are from the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FLDS), has accounted for most cases. The Southwest Utah Public Health Department has used social media and talk radio updates to provide updates on the outbreak. Despite these efforts, there have been no changes to daily life, with few changes to everyday life. The vaccination rate for kindergarteners in hard-hit Washington County is 79.2%. The current outbreak rate for measles is 92.6% in Salt Lake County, which is 926%.
