St. Pete man arrested after posing as bank employee, stealing more than $20K: police

A St. Petersburg man, Akbar Hasssan Vann, has been arrested for posing as a Suncoast Credit Union employee and stealing over $20,000 from two customers. The scam occurred around July 16, 2025, when Vann contacted the victims by phone claiming to be from the fraud department and transferring $21,000 out of their accounts to the Sunco. The money was then depleted through cash withdrawals and point-of-sale transactions. Vann was arrested and charged with a scheme to defraud an amount between $20 and $50,000.
