Ohio bill pressing for statewide conversion therapy ban faces new obstacles after SCOTUS ruling

The U.S. Supreme Court's ruling against Colorado's ban on "conversion therapy" for LGBTQ youth has made an uphill battle for Ohio's Senate Minority Leader Nickie Antonio for a statewide ban. The court ruled that Colorado's law, which prohibits licensed mental health providers from engaging in conversion therapy for minor patients, constitutes viewpoint discrimination under the First Amendment and can only survive under strict scrutiny if it meets strict scrutiny. Despite this, Antonio has introduced legislation that would similarly prohibit the practice statewide. The National Center for LGBTQ Rights expects a period of "indeterminacy" where other states' laws may face challenges.
