The King County Sheriff's Office is deploying a new counter-drone technology paid for by around $12-million in federal grants for World Cup security. The new systems will help law enforcement identify drones violating temporary flight restrictions. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced "No Drone Zones" will be in effect around all World Cup stadiums and fan events. The King County sheriff's office will use its patrol drones to monitor crowds and venues during the games. The drone detection tech was used during the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl parade where dozens of unauthorized drones were detected. Last year, Congress approved $500 million for counter-Drone technology, with the 11 FIFA World Cup 2026 host cities receiving first funding.
