Anorage physician Dr. Claribel Tan has been sentenced to 78 months in federal prison for health care fraud and 60 months for tax evasion, with a total of $17 million in restitution. Her husband, Daniel Tan, was sentenced to three years probation and will serve two years of home confinement. The case involved a $12.5 million health care scheme and a separate tax fraud scheme. Tan admitted to causing millions of dollars in false and fraudulent claims to health care benefit programs. The length of the sentence was significant in a white-collar case, and U.S. Attorney Michael Heyman said the restitution figure is expected to be finalized through the court process.
