The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has sued Texas franchisee, Hatch Trick, for religious discrimination. The company allegedly tried to force employee Laurel Torode, a member of the United Church of God, to work Saturdays despite initially agreeing to accommodate her faith. Torode was offered a demotion to a delivery driver position with lower pay, reduced benefits and fewer hours. The lawsuit alleges that Hatch Trick owner Jeff Glover rejected several scheduling alternatives that would have allowed Torode to remain in her managerial role while observing her sabbath. The case has drawn attention as Chick-fil-A has long emphasized its Christian roots and maintains its Sunday shutdown policy.
