The number of victims of domestic abuse has increased in England and Wales, with 150 people suspected of taking their own lives in the year leading up to 2025, up from 98 in the previous year. The National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) found that 8% of victims were aged 16 to 24, and a significant increase in young people aged 18 to 19 years old. The increase is attributed to improved awareness and recording of suicides following a change in practice last year which requires officers to check for a history of past incidents.
