James McAvoy's feature directorial debut, California Schemin', will be released in theaters on October 2 in NYC and LA before expanding on Oct. 9 through Bob Yari's Magenta Light Studios. The film is based on Gavin Bain's autobiography, which was later reissued as Straight Outta Scotland. It follows two aspiring musicians who reinvented themselves as Californian rappers after their initial rejection of a record deal due to their Scottish accents. The movie premiered at TIFF last fall and has been released in the UK and Ireland on April 10.
