Published on May 2, 2026.
A new bill, the GUARD Act, aims to restrict minors' access to AI companion chatbots and require stronger safeguards for users. The bill would impose age regulations and restrict sites that are accessible to children and teenagers. It is co-sponsored by Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto and aims to limit the negative impact of AI chatbots on youth. The act would require chatbots to clearly disclose that they are artificial and not real at the start of a conversation and every 30 minutes. It would also make it illegal for AI chatbot to encourage or promote physical violence.
