This accusation comes as the United Farm Workers union is dealing with reports that Cháved abused girls and young women. The union has cancelled celebrations and tributes in his honor. HuertA, who worked with Cháavez for decades, expressed her feelings about the abuse and condemned Cháves' actions. The New York Times found extensive evidence that Chävez had groomed multiple little girls while leading the farmworkers movement. The UFW Foundation responded by calling the allegations "shocking, indefensible" and expressing its commitment to protecting the most vulnerable.
