30 Years Ago, a Grammy-Winning Grunge Band Quit Touring at the Height of Their Fame Due to Singer’s Ongoing Struggles

Stone Temple Pilots, a Grammy-winning grunge band, had to cancel their 1996-97 tour due to frontman Scott Weiland's ongoing drug addiction. Despite the band's success and success, Weiland was arrested in May 1995 for drug possession and locked up in L.A.’s Chateau Marmont. He was recommended for outpatient treatment under California law but failed to attend at first. Despite this, the band continued to perform, with several canceled shows several times so Weiland could go to rehab. After completing his court-ordered program, the group was eager to get back on the road. However, a few months later, their relationship became more difficult.
