Palm Beach County, Florida, has been repeatedly asked by the state's chief financial officer, Scott Fennell, for more details about the county budget. Despite a public records request from months ago, the state has not provided additional details about Fennennell's criticism of the county's spending. The county maintains nearly $2 billion in reserve funds for fiscal year 2026. The reserve funds are used for emergency expenses, homelessness prevention, affordable housing, and land management in the Agricultural Reserve. A reduction in reserves would significantly increase borrowing costs for infrastructure, public safety, and long-term capital projects. However, the county has not yet received any responsive records.
