Shamar Elkins, a 31-year-old Army vet dad, killed eight children and their cousin in a shooting rampage in Shreveport, Louisiana. He also seriously wounded two women believed to be his wife and girlfriend. The killings were reportedly sparked by an argument between Elkins and his wife, Shaneiqua Pugh, who were engaged in divorce proceedings. Elkins had previously confessed to drowning in "dark thoughts" and telling his stepdad that some people "don't come back from their demons". He also served with the Louisiana Army National Guard from August 2013 to August 2020. The victims were identified as Jayla Elkins from age 3 to 11, with seven of the children being his own children and the eighth being their cousin.
