A domestic shorthair tortoiseshell cat has tested positive for rabies in Baltimore County, according to a county release. The county has identified one potential case of human exposure, but did not provide further details. To date, the county has reported six animals that tested positive: one cat, one fox, and four raccoons. The World Health Organization reports that 99% of human rabies cases result from dog bites or scratches. A low-cost rabies vaccination clinic will be held on April 25 for dogs, cats and ferrets at least 12 weeks old. The fee includes a free microchip with lifetime registration and an initial Baltimore County pet license.
