Sinner dethrones Alcaraz from No.1 spot with Monte Carlo Masters win
Published on April 13, 2026.
Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner has won the Monte Carlo Masters, his first Masters title on clay and reclaiming the world number one ranking from defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. The win, 7-6(5) 6-3, marks Sinner's fourth consecutive Masters 1000 crown and his eighth Masters title overall. This victory marks only the second time in history that Sinner achieved the 'Sunshine Double' and Monte Carlo in the same season, a feat previously achieved by Novak Djokovic. The last time the two players met was in the ATP Finals title clash five months ago. Alaraz admitted Sinner performed better when it mattered most, but acknowledged that the ranking is secondary.
