Colossal Biosciences, the company that produced a trio of modern-day dire wolves, is expanding its 'de-extinction' project to include an African antelope. The bluebuck, a rare animal that existed for at least 400,000 years before extinction, was driven to extinction about 1800. The company hopes this success can aid in the conservation efforts of other antelope and bovid species. The project will also advance Colossal's BioVault program to create a "modern-day Noah's Ark" of genetic material. Since announcing its project to de-extinct the woolly mammoth in 2021, Colossal has also announced plans to reintroduce two birds, the dodo and the moa, the Australian thylacine or Tasmanian tiger and the dire wolf.
