Puario Governor Jenniffer González Colón has signed Law 42-2026, which allows for the dignified handling of fetal remains from pregnancies under 20 weeks. The law amends the Regulated Biomedical Waste Management Act to allow for the release of human fetal remains when the mother or father formally requests their release. The Department of Health will prepare a special certificate for the registration of stillborn children, which will be recorded in a special book and archived separately. The measure was supported by the Hospital Association and the Department of Human Rights.
