The Challenger, a limited series based on Meredith E. Bagby's 2023 book The New Guys, has been given a greenlight by Amazon for the first time. The series will be directed by Maggie Cohn, who will also write, exec produce and serve as showrunner. The show will be produced by Kyra Sedgwick's Big Swing Productions, Stewart's Nevermind label, and Amblin Television. The Challenger follows the story of astronaut Sally Ride, who was the first American woman to fly into space in 1978 and later served on the Presidential Commission on the Space Shuttle Challenger Accident in 1986, which killed seven crew members.
