A judge in the U.S. District Court of Colorado has granted a class-wide preliminary injunction to declare athletes from the high school class of 2022 ineligible for the upcoming season. Athletes who had exhausted four seasons of eligibility and thought their college career had ended would be eligible for the transfer portal starting on Aug. 3. This comes as part of the new five-for-five eligibility model for college athletics, which would give athletes across all sports five years to play five seasons. The ruling could create chaos for high-major programs, as most teams have already built out their rosters for the 2026-27 season. However, exceptions may be made due to teams still have needs.
