GOP hard-liners derail government's spying power despite pressure from Trump

The House of Representatives has failed to pass an 18-month extension of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), despite pressure from President Donald Trump. 20 Republicans blocked the extension in a 2:07 a.m. vote, citing major privacy concerns. The extension was extended only until April 30 to allow for further negotiations. The hard-liners, including Republican Reps. Sheri Biggs, Lauren Boebert, Tim Burchett, Eric Burlison, Michael Cloud, Andrew Clyde, and Paul Gosar, also opposed the extension. Despite efforts to secure a long-term extension, this internal rebellion came about despite Trump's advocacy for a FISA extension.
