A mid-March snowstorm surprised many Washingtonians, with several inches of fresh snow falling on Snoqualmie and Stevens Passes. However, the National Weather Service (NWS) Seattle office stated that the storm likely won't be enough to aid the region's dwindling snowpack this winter. The Cascades and the Olympics are still abnormally dry for this time of year, with snowpack at around 60% of the median. This could lead to a potentially busy fire season in western Washington. The NOAA's Climate Prediction Center outlook is currently favoring above average temperatures and slightly below average precipitation heading into the summer months.
