Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth announced two major changes to the military's chaplaincy corps, which will see military chaplains no longer displaying their rank insignia and instead display religious insignia representing their "divine calling." The Pentagon will instead use 31 faith codes instead of the 200 previously recognized system, which Hegsetsh believes will foster better spiritual care for service members. The move is part of Hegsettingh's wider effort to infuse the chaplainry with more explicitly religious sentiments in the military. Hegsetth also stated that the move would make chaplians more accessible to service members and reduce any unease or anxiety about approaching a superior to discuss sensitive issues. There have been controversies and debates over the military’s ability to accommodate religious expression over the years, with allegations of inappropriate behavior at the Air Force Academy and Air Force academies.
