BTQ Technologies Corp. has published a research paper, titled "Kardashev Scale Quantum Computing for Bitcoin Mining," which asserts that using quantum computers to accelerate traditional mining is currently impossible. The study suggests that competitive quantum mining would require a significant amount of resources, with a quantum fleet consisting of approximately 10^23 physical qubits and 10^25 watts of power at Bitcoin's January 2025 difficulty level, equivalent to the total power output of a star. The research supports BTQ's ongoing work on "Bitcoin Quantum," a specialized architecture designed to protect the network from future quantum attacks. Additionally, the study supports the company's Quantum Proof of Work (QPoW), which is designed specifically for quantum machines.
