The G7 has hosted a virtual session between finance ministers, energy ministers and central bank governors, marking the fourth time since the start of the Iran war that the G7 convenes at a ministerial level. The first virtual session on March 9 resulted in a communiqué promising to monitor the situation and developments in energy markets, but was met with skepticism over the long-term impact. The European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, called for an exit from the war and called for a diplomatic solution. Germany's Foreign Minister Johann Wadepul complained about a lack of weapons and communication complicating coordinated efforts on Iran. The upcoming G7 leaders' summit in June is also controversial, with South Africa not expected to attend.
