The increasing use of artificial intelligence in computer science education is causing anxiety among students as universities across Texas are implementing more rigorous methods of teaching the field due to the slow growth of software development jobs in the industry. This comes as admissions to computer science programs are down by around 20% and as hiring for software engineers has slowed. Some of the highest unemployment rates for recent college graduates are degree holders in computer Science and computer engineering, at 7% and 7.8% respectively, according to a Federal Reserve Bank of New York study. The change in teaching is causing concern among students and faculty as AI becomes more sophisticated and can perform much of the coding work human software developers can't match. As artificial intelligence becomes more advanced, Texas universities are reworking their computer science curricula in response to the changing job market.
