Kassandra McNeary and her three children were evicted twice from two apartment complexes in Oklahoma while trying to escape ongoing physical and mental abuse from their father. Despite defending her and her children in eviction court twice, McNearry lost her case against her abuser. The eviction affected their lives, including the 8-year-old's ability to perform well in school and academic outcomes. The Mental Health Association of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City Public Schools have published data showing that children facing eviction are more likely to be chronically absent and have poor academic outcomes, according to the data. The association argues that the child's well-being should be considered during the eviction process due to this. Other aspects of eviction can also affect children's development, such as bullying, and housing instability. The report also found that even the threat of eviction was disruptive to a student's education.
