State House Speaker Cameron Sexton has proposed a plan to redirect tax money dedicated to the Music City Center to use for East Bank construction and recruitment of major events like the Super Bowl. The plan would allow Nashville to host major events such as the NCAA Final Four and Wrestlemania. This move would alleviate a significant burden on the city budget and allow for the construction of projects like a new north-south boulevard and a new road connecting to the Oracle campus. If successful, this plan would free up Metro money that would otherwise have otherwise been used for other citywide priorities like new schools, fire halls, and sidewalks. The proposal includes $300 million in tax collections to the East Bank Development Authority, $30 million annually, and $21 million for public safety.
