The federal government is raising a nationwide concern over "high-risk" Medicaid providers, a type of form of fraud that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is calling for all 50 states to revalidate these providers. The Centers will require states to submit a revalidation plan within 30 days or face more aggressive federal audits. This move is part of a broader anti-fraud push, which includes a freeze on $259 million in deferred Medicaid payments to Minnesota earlier this year due to an investigation alleging that the state allowed the theft of federal funds intended for social-welfare programs. The White House established the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud in March to coordinate national anti-raud strategy across federal benefit programs.
