The Maul – Shadow Lord finale gave Star Wars fans a glimpse of a showdown between Darth Vader and Maul, without Vader speaking. Lucasfilm co-president Dave Filoni explained that Vader is not Anakin, but instead focuses on destroying anything that reminds him of Anakin. He believes that if Vader were to face what he did, it would destroy him even further. Filoni also mentioned Vader's eventual redemption in Star Wars Rebels and his hatred towards Ahsoka Tano. The show's ending ended with Maul betraying Daki and leading to Vader's death, which could potentially lead to the character of Talon from George Lucas's original sequel trilogy plans.
