India's filmed entertainment segment posted its best-ever year in 2025, reaching INR205 billion ($2.18 billion) and lifting the country's total media and entertainment sector 9% year-on-year to INR2.78 trillion ($29.63 billion). The growth outpaced India's per-capita GDP expansion of 7.7%. Digital media emerged as the single largest segment of the industry, crossing $10.66 billion for the first time, with India’s streaming market exceeding $2.9 billion in 2025. Total advertising revenues grew 13.5% to $15.98 billion, equivalent to 0.41% of India's GDP. The sector is projected to reach $35.17 billion by 2028, growing at a compound annual rate of over 7%. The sector also provides direct employment to approximately 2.75 million people and provides indirect employment to over 10 million.
