Researchers from the French-Egyptian Center for the Study of the Temples of Karnak have discovered a stone stela dedicated to Roman Emperor Tiberius during an archaeological mission to restore a gateway built by Pharaoh Ramses III. The sandstone block depicts Tiberio dressed as a pharaoh and performing a ritual to uphold the cosmic order. Previous Roman and Roman rulers, such as Alexander the Great, Trajan, and Claudius, had also been depicted and deified as pharaohs. The discovery was part of a longstanding tradition of depicting Tiberios as Egyptian ruler within its ancient religious framework. The mission was also able to discover a pavement that was first recorded at the beginning of the 20th century.
