A federal appeals court has refused to halt the Trump administration's efforts to blacklist US-based Anthropic, stating that the company will likely suffer irreparable harm without a stay. The court granted Anthropic's request to expedite the case and will hear oral arguments on May 19. The ruling was made by a panel of three judges appointed by Republicans, including Trump appointees Gregory Katsas and Neomi Rao. Anthropic claims that it exercised its First Amendment rights by refusing to allow Claude AI models to be used in autonomous warfare and mass surveillance. The Trump administration is appealing the ruling to the US Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.
