Lucy Dunford, a former 19-year-old student from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, was left paralyzed from the neck down after suffering a rare spinal stroke in December 2024. The stroke, which usually affects people between 50 and 70 years old, left her with severe nerve pain and severe muscle spasms. She is now in a wheelchair and is fundraising for specialist physiotherapy treatment to help build her muscles and stop her "uncontrollable spasms". Prior to the incident, Lucy had only begun studying FDA leadership and management at the University of Hull and was working two jobs.
