The Elgin Short Film Festival is open for 20-minute or less films submitted for 20 minutes or less, with films that are not only animation, or films previously entered in other festivals are also eligible. Films will be screened for audiences at The Hemmens Cultural Center in a red carpet-style event and winners will receive prizes including $1,000 for first place, $500 for second and $300 for third. The vote to choose Elgin High School’s new mascot is open through May 5. The first Run, Walk & Roll Elgin will take place on April 26 at Marklund Wasmond Center in Elgin, with proceeds supporting children and adults with profound developmental disabilities. The 11th annual Walk4Animals & 5K will also raise money for Anderson Humane, which will help find homes for pets and care for about 3,500 injured and orphaned wild animals.
