East Chicago Central's Mekhi Gillis, a freshman guard, has been making an impact for the Cardinals in his debut season. Gillis is averaging 7.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. He also scored a career-high 22 points in the Class 3A West Side Sectional championship game last week. The Cardinals are set to play against Mishawaka Marian, seeking their second consecutive regional title after winning their third straight sectional title. Gilli is part of a highly talented freshman class, which includes Naji Meux and Zayden Johnson.
