Arizona has signed legislation allowing businesses to round prices up or down in response to the federal government's phase-out of the penny. The law was signed by Gov. Katie Hobbs and goes into effect immediately. Businesses are short on pennies and the change is making it difficult to make change. The bill's sponsor, Rep. Teresa Martinez, stated that businesses must post signs indicating that cash transactions will be rounded to the nearest five-cent increment. Other states where this legislation is pending approval or governors' signatures are also considering similar measures.
