Apple replaced its large baseline model, the iPhone 16 Plus, with the super-thin iPhone Air in its lineup last September. A report by mobile analytics firm Ookla has found that uptake tripled, with 6.8% of iPhone 17 series owners using Speedtests, compared to 2.9% who used the previous generation. This increase is attributed to the company's bet on better design. However, the Pro models, which made up 86% of all iPhones sampled, were also gaining popularity. The report also found that more people globally use the iPhone Air than the Galaxy S25 Edge, a gap that's wider in the US. South Korea was the most popular place for the Air, accounting for 11.2% of users, followed by Japan, Sweden, and Singapore. The Air is also more affordable in countries where buyers prefer affordable handsets.
