The Livingston Mall in North Jersey, a once bustling shopping center, has been hit by lawsuits alleging that its owner, Kohan Retail Investment Group, has failed to properly maintain the parking lot and failed to warn visitors about hazardous conditions. The lawsuit was filed in February and alleges that a teenage driver accidentally crashed into a sinkhole at the mall. The mall is privately owned by multiple stakeholders and the town cannot currently enforce its owners' actions. The town has been finning the mall's owners for alleged code violations and previously went into delinquency for its property taxes. Despite its current condition, the mall property continues to have significant economic value and is dependent on it for property tax revenue.
