'Coda v. Goodyear': Indefiniteness destroys trade secrets

Coda sued Goodyear for trade secret misappropriation in August 2015 under the Ohio Uninform Trade Secrets Act, alleging that it disclosed its trade secrets to Goodyear orally and thereafter, Goodyear misappropriated the trade secrets. The lawsuit was settled in the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in 2025. Goodyear prevailed on its Rule 50(b) motions in the case. Coda listed 27 trade secrets in its response to the lawsuit, including a self-inflation system that operates when the tire rotates in either direction. The alleged trade secrets involved complex recitations of Coda's SIT technology.
