The United Arab Emirates (UAE) experienced a surge in cyberattacks from Iran during the Iran war, according to Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, head of cybersecurity for the UAE. He said that in the early days of the war, Iranian proxies targeted critical infrastructure, and after the internet was cut, they continued to attack. The UAE also received phishing emails asking people to click on links, which often resulted in destructive data gathering. The Iranian government also launched thousands of missiles and drones at as many as 12 American-allied states in retaliation for US-Israeli strikes on its territory. The cyber attacks disrupted banking systems in the UAE and Bahrain, disrupting financial transactions and everyday banking activities. The use of cyber operations and influence campaigns during the conflict was seen as an integral part of modern warfare, with Iran and Iran-linked actors making extensive use of these tactics.
