Louisianans are not the biggest tippers in the country, according to Toast data, with tips averaging 18.6% in the last quarter of 2025, below the national average of 18.8%. This is due to rising expectations and confusion over when and how much to tip. Delaware, West Virginia, New Hampshire, and Indiana are among the states with the highest average tippers, with diners leaving roughly 21% or higher on average. California, Washington, D.C., and Washington state were among the bottom 10 states. The data also only includes restaurants using the Toast platform.
