HBO's new Harry Potter series, executive produced by J.K. Rowling, could become a hit as it adapts each of the franchise's seven original books. However, this depends on whether people will actually watch the show. Rowling's involvement in the show, which is being executive produced, has a significant impact on HBO's ethical consumption of the series. She has made it clear that she believes attacking transgender people via the legal system is a worthwhile cause and a good use of her vast personal fortune. Her willingness to align herself with transphobia activists has been significant as she encourages public to embrace their hateful beliefs and identify trans people as threats to society. The charity For Women Scotland (FWS) won its initial judicial review in 2022, but was later reversed in 2023, and an amended version of the Scottish Gender Representation Act used the British 2010 Equality Act’s definition of women, which included trans women, was signed into law. The case went to the UK Supreme Court, which ruled that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex assigned at birth.
