Chicago Cubs' aggressive trade deadline moves show the team's belief in a postseason run. Cubs president of baseball operations, Jed Hoyer, stated that the team was investing in upgrades to their current roster, currently holding the top National League wild-card position. The team made four trades in the 36 hours leading up to the deadline, including the addition of Clay Holmes (New York Mets), Kevin Gausman (Toronto Blue Jays), Ryan Zeferjahn (Los Angeles Angels), Braxton Garrett (Miami Marlins) and outfielder Tyrone Taylor (Mets). The Cubs also gave up former top prospect Moisés Ballesteros, two of their top 10 prospects in shortstop Jefferson Rojas and first baseman Jonathon Long. The front office also had discussions about acquiring a big-league controllable starting pitcher.
